Taking the Gloves Off - TTQ-5/6 -- Check out the video.

Future of Iraq: The spoils of war - "Iraq's massive oil reserves, the third-largest in the world, are about to be thrown open for large-scale exploitation by Western oil companies under a controversial law which is expected to come before the Iraqi parliament within days. The US government has been involved in drawing up the law, a draft of which has been seen by The Independent on Sunday. It would give big oil companies such as BP, Shell and Exxon 30-year contracts to extract Iraqi crude and allow the first large-scale operation of foreign oil interests in the country since the industry was nationalised in 1972." -- The war was never about freedom or terrorism.

Revealed: Israel plans nuclear strike on Iran - "ISRAEL has drawn up secret plans to destroy Iran’s uranium enrichment facilities with tactical nuclear weapons. Two Israeli air force squadrons are training to blow up an Iranian facility using low-yield nuclear “bunker-busters”, according to several Israeli military sources." -- Some secret.

Teheran: Israel will regret any attack - "In response to a report on Sunday that Israel planned to attack Teheran's nuclear sites, Iran declared that any attack would provoke a reaction and that "anyone who attacks will regret their actions very quickly."" -- The alpha dog syndrome seems to be rather active today.

'This is BS': Matthews Mad Dems Not Moving To End War - ""To get elected, is that all they wanted? Do you think it's possible that the Democrats used the war issue to get elected and once they got the power and the perks that they're going to let the war slide a couple of years?"" -- Yes, Chris. I do.

Hang 'em high - "If the execution of Saddam Hussein has proven anything, it's that the new, democratically elected Iraqi government has learned a lot of valuable lessons from the Bush administration. One lesson: when caught in a Big Lie, Lie BIGGER."

Saddam's 'snuff video' signals the end of editorial control - "But as the US media recovered from the excitement of reporting the final act of a show that has preoccupied a father-son dynasty of Texan presidents, the release of videophone footage on the internet showing Saddam being mocked and humiliated in his final moments by guards chanting the name of the Shia cleric Moqtada al-Sadr reconfirmed that the mainstream media has all but lost control of what reaches the public domain."

The Unmentionable Hypocrisy: Hussein Hanged, Bush and Blair Remain in Power - "Saddam Hussein was hanged a week ago, today, for executing 148 people. Yet, even by conservative estimates, George W. Bush and Tony Blair are responsible for hundreds, or thousands, of times more deaths due to their war of aggression — the supreme international crime — in Iraq."

They have made a killing - "The US has spent a million dollars for every dead Iraqi - is that what they mean by value for money?"

Serve country till you're 55 - "SQUADDIES could still be serving in the trenches at the age of FIFTY-FIVE under the Army’s new recruitment limit."

Peanuts Kill More Americans Than Terrorists - "The menace of global terrorism has been labeled the greatest threat to western civilization since communism and yet swimming pools, peanuts and lost deer kill more Americans every single year. Why are our governments facilitating the terrorist's agenda by hyping a peril that simply doesn't exist?" -- More money to be made in fighting terrorism.

Britons to be scanned for FBI database - "Millions of Britons who visit the United States are to have their fingerprints stored on the FBI database alongside those of criminals, in a move that has outraged civil rights groups. The Observer has established that under new plans to combat terrorism, the US government will demand that visitors have all 10 fingers scanned when they enter the country. The information will be shared with intelligence agencies, including the FBI, with no restrictions on their international use." -- Why would anyone want to visit the U.S.?

Ladies' first scares some - "Is America frightened by women in power? ... I thought we worked this all out in the 1970s. But women leaders must still be scary, at least to a portion of the electorate. Why else would the Drudge Report keep posting that photo of Pelosi brandishing a black leather whip? As if some have a hard time imagining a strong female beyond Catwoman or Mistress Helga." -- Women are just as corruptible as men.

House rules change clears way for tax increases - "One of the first key procedural votes in the Democrat-controlled House last week established legislative rules that Republicans say will make it easier to raise taxes by a simple majority vote."

City Hall pushed to buy $1.5m system to track gunshots - "Boston city councilors, law enforcement officials, and community leaders are pressing City Hall to come up with $1.5 million to buy a promising acoustic gunshot-detection system."

Dark cloud over good works of Gates Foundation - "But polio is not the only threat Justice faces. Almost since birth, he has had respiratory trouble. His neighbors call it "the cough." People blame fumes and soot spewing from flames that tower 300 feet into the air over a nearby oil plant. It is owned by the Italian petroleum giant Eni, whose investors include the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation."

Dallas-based food chain to accept Mexican pesos - "Starting Monday, patrons of the Dallas-based Pizza PatrĂ³n chain, which caters heavily to Latinos, will be able to purchase American pizzas with Mexican pesos. Restaurant experts and economists said they knew of no other food chain with locations so far from the Mexican border offering such a service."

Pope Urges Need for 'Renewed Humanism' - "Religious leaders of all faiths must play a role in ensuring that the spiritual and cultural aspects of life are not forgotten as mankind tackles the challenges of globalization, Pope Benedict XVI said Saturday."

IN AN INSTANT, RETIREMENT SAVINGS VANISH - "Then came the really bad news. While credit card and online banking accounts are legally protected in the event of fraud, DeSmidt’s brokerage account came with no such insurance. Two months after the theft, his balance still read $0. With hacking of brokerage accounts increasing, the legal gap facing DeSmidt and other victims has regulators and critics debating the need for new consumer protections."

GM goes electric with new concept car at auto show - "Struggling auto giant General Motors Corp. on Sunday revived its once-failed idea of a mass-market electric car, unveiling a new "concept" car called the Volt designed to use little or no gasoline."

Self-Cleaning Underwear Goes Weeks Without Washing - "The new technology attaches nanoparticles to clothing fibers using microwaves. Then, chemicals that can repel water, oil and bacteria are directly bound to the nanoparticles. These two elements combine to create a protective coating on the fibers of the material. This coating both kills bacteria, and forces liquids to bead and run off."
