This is a great example of how things can get fuckered up for no real reason.

We have a group of "prominent scientists" who start the ball rolling by protesting "the church's growing influence on Russian society". The article doesn't mention one way or another, but I'm willing to bet that the group advertised itself as a "group of scientists", not just "folks with a bone to pick".

The "spokesman" for the Russian Orthodox Church takes the bait and makes statements about the "ideology of science". Of course, what he should be addressing is the "ideology of these particular scientists", but accuracy would be too much to ask.

So, out of the air, we get another example of "science vs. religion".

Gotta keep the masses distracted and confused by keeping them fighting amongst themselves about "science vs. religion" or "minorities vs. whites" or "straights vs. gays" or "man-made global warming vs. natural global warming" or "the non-religious vs. the religious" or "conservatives vs. liberals" etc.

Are the fires from all of these "hot topic" issues fanned to keep the masses distracted?

I don't know.

Just a thought.
