American Caesar - "The Iraq war is not the only reason for insisting that the Bush administration deserves some blame for the magnitude of the still-unfolding catastrophe. After 9/11, the president promised that the nation would never again be so unprepared in the face of disaster. The Department of Homeland Security was created with a view to ensuring that every American city had adequate emergency plans in place for the kind of large-scale crisis that could accompany either a terrorist attack or a natural disaster. It was an empty promise. Four years after 9/11, the fiasco in New Orleans underscores our nation's ongoing inability to cope with serious threats."

But Gallup officials this week categorically refused to poll Americans, telling Bob Fertik, Democrats for Unity president until impeachment was discussed by congressional leaders or news commentators in the media, it was their official policy to refrain from asking hypothetical questions."

Alternative browsers pose challenge for cybersleuths - "Internet Explorer hides nothing from police and other investigators who examine PCs to discover which sites the user has visited, according to a class held Wedensday at the annual training meeting of the High Tech Crime Investigation Association. Investigators know the location of the IE browser cache, cookie files and history, and they know how to read those files. Also, popular forensics tools can help out. But that story changes when it comes to alternative Web browsers such as Firefox and Opera."

There is no point in taking the city back. It should be abandoned to the sea and the swamps. It is a waste of billions of dollars based on people's bad choices to live in an unfit location. Running pumps full time to keep the city above water is absurd in the extreme. Think, if they turned off the pumps, not only would they save the electricity required to run them but they could also stop with the air conditioning. Time to abandon New Orleans and environs.
