For my buddy, Luis. ;-)
Pope Benedict XVI reasserted the primacy of the Roman Catholic Church, approving a document released Tuesday that says other Christian communities are either defective or not true churches and Catholicism provides the only true path to salvation.
Well, Pope, that's what you believe.

Must... keep... it... short....
Try as I might, I can't see how people could read the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith's document and come away with "Catholicism provides the only true path to salvation". I really find it hard to believe that the document was read at all.
In fact, it seems that the response to question 3 of the document specifically addresses this: "...it comes from and brings out more clearly the fact that there are 'numerous elements of sanctification and of truth' which are found outside her structure, but which 'as gifts properly belonging to the Church of Christ, impel towards Catholic Unity'".
This also addresses the "anti-ecumenism" argument... the call is (and as far as I can tell, has always been), for all Christian communities to be in full communion with Rome. This may not be what other Christian churches want to hear, but I haven't seen any evidence that this hasn't been the traditional Catholic position.
