Doomed to a fatal delusion over climate change

But never mind the poor boy, who became too terrified even to drink. What's scarier is that people in charge of our Government seem to suffer from this "climate change delusion", too.

...

Rudd hopes this pain will make you switch to expensive but less gassy alternatives, and -- hey presto -- the world's temperature will then fall, just like it's actually done since the day Al Gore released An Inconvenient Truth.

But you'll have spotted already the big flaw in Rudd's mad plan -- one that confirms he and Garnaut really do have delusions.

The truth is Australia on its own emits less than 1.5 per cent of the world's carbon dioxide. Any savings we make will make no real difference, given that China (now the biggest emitter) and India (the fourth) are booming so fast that they alone will pump out 42 per cent of the world's greenhouse gases by 2030.

Rule by fear or rule by law?

Beginning in 1999, the government has entered into a series of single-bid contracts with Halliburton subsidiary Kellogg, Brown and Root (KBR) to build detention camps at undisclosed locations within the United States. The government has also contracted with several companies to build thousands of railcars, some reportedly equipped with shackles, ostensibly to transport detainees.

According to diplomat and author Peter Dale Scott, the KBR contract is part of a Homeland Security plan titled ENDGAME, which sets as its goal the removal of "all removable aliens" and "potential terrorists."

It gets worse:

Also in 2007, the White House quietly issued National Security Presidential Directive 51 (NSPD-51), to ensure "continuity of government" in the event of what the document vaguely calls a "catastrophic emergency." Should the president determine that such an emergency has occurred, he and he alone is empowered to do whatever he deems necessary to ensure "continuity of government." This could include everything from canceling elections to suspending the Constitution to launching a nuclear attack. Congress has yet to hold a single hearing on NSPD-51.

And worse:

A clue as to where Harman's commission might be aiming is the Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act, a law that labels those who "engage in sit-ins, civil disobedience, trespass, or any other crime in the name of animal rights" as terrorists. Other groups in the crosshairs could be anti-abortion protesters, anti-tax agitators, immigration activists, environmentalists, peace demonstrators, Second Amendment rights supporters ... the list goes on and on. According to author Naomi Wolf, the National Counterterrorism Center holds the names of roughly 775,000 "terror suspects" with the number increasing by 20,000 per month.

What could the government be contemplating that leads it to make contingency plans to detain without recourse millions of its own citizens?

CIA Director Hayden Warns of New al-Qaida Attacks

"Our analysts assess with high confidence that al-Qaida's central leadership is planning high-impact plots against the U.S. homeland."

Interesting this rhetoric always seems to increase around September 11th of every year.

U.S. Studying Two Dozen 'Clusters' of Possible Homegrown Terrorists

In a report to be made public today, New York City Police Commissioner Ray Kelly concludes the 9/ll attacks were an "anomaly" and the most serious terror threat to the country comes from clusters of "unremarkable" individuals who are on a path that could lead to homegrown terror.

If this were true, then why would it be reported, therefore tipping the "clusters" off?

No, I think this is a tactic to just keep the masses in fear.

al-Qaida Has Rebuilt, U.S. Intel Warns

U.S. intelligence analysts have concluded al-Qaida has rebuilt its operating capability to a level not seen since just before the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, The Associated Press has learned.

The conclusion suggests that the group that launched the most devastating terror attack on the United States has been able to rebuild despite nearly six years of bombings, war and other tactics aimed at crippling it.

Still, numerous government officials say they know of no specific, credible threat of a new attack.

So, we can look at this a couple of ways:

1. al-Qaida is a name used to describe many, many opponents of the U.S. for the sole purpose of generating fear in the American public in order to keep the profitable war machine going.

2. al-Qaida is indeed a legitimate threat to the U.S. (not something the U.S. just uses to keep the war machine going) but the strategy for the past six years has not worked and quite possibly has made the situation much worse.

Both scenarios are depressing.

O'Reilly and the pistol-packin' mamas

Because I'm not creative enough to make this shit up:

A "national underground network" of pink pistol-packing lesbians is terrorizing America. "All across the country," they are raping young girls, attacking heterosexual males at random, and forcibly indoctrinating children as young as 10 into the homosexual lifestyle, according to a shocking June 21 segment on the popular Fox News Channel program, "The O'Reilly Factor."

But there's more:

After this introduction, O'Reilly went to a split-screen live interview with "Fox News crime analyst" Rod Wheeler.

...

So, what exactly was the basis of this report?

Turns out that Wheeler is not exactly the kind of source one would consider reliable:

Evidently, the "no spin zone" is increasingly resembling the Bizarro Universe.

Fox News: Universal Healthcare Breeds Terrorists

Today on Fox News’s Your World With Neil Cavuto, National Review Online columnist Jerry Bowyer attacked Michael Moore’s movie SiCKO and its positive portrayal of the health care in countries such as Britain and France. He argued that national health care systems are breeding grounds for terrorists because they are “bureaucratic.” “I think the terrorists have shown over and over again…they’re very good at gaming the system with bureaucracies,” said Bowyer.

We are ruled by fear

"The politics of fear" is being used, not only by terror groups, militias and dictatorships but, increasingly, by democratic governments, says Amnesty.

In a profoundly depressing catalogue of human rights abuses around the world, a new and disturbing element is the erosion of freedoms in democratic countries, following widespread introduction of anti-terrorism legislation. Governments throughout western Europe have also exploited public concerns about uncontrolled migration to justify tough measures against asylum-seekers and refugees, claims the report.

See how bad it is here.

U.S. Military Wanted to Provoke War With Cuba

In case you were not aware of this:

In the early 1960s, America's top military leaders reportedly drafted plans to kill innocent people and commit acts of terrorism in U.S. cities to create public support for a war against Cuba.

So what makes one think that this scenario wouldn't happen today?

Pentagon restricting testimony in Congress

Somebody's afraid of something...

Robert L. Wilkie , a former Bush administration national security official who left the White House to become assistant secretary of defense for legislative affairs last year, has outlined a half-dozen guidelines that prohibit most officers below the rank of colonel from appearing in hearings, restricting testimony to high-ranking officers and civilians appointed by President Bush.

Around globe, walls spring up to divide neighbors

They are meant to keep job-hungry immigrants, terrorists and smugglers out, thwart invaders, and keep antagonists apart.

"Mother should I build a wall?" ~ Pink Floyd

“And the walls came tumbling down”

As long as there are the "haves" and the "have-nots", the "haves" will continue to build walls to keep the "have-nots" away.

As long as one group of people believe their way of life is in danger from another group of people, walls will be built to separate them.

As long as there is oppression, there will be walls.

As long as there will be violence, there will be walls.

As long as there will be fear, there will be walls.

As long as there will be humans, there will be walls.

Here's the link to the following post.

And the walls should come tumbling down. Instead, governments are building them everywhere. Great monolithic structures cutting across our landscapes for all sorts of reasons. The benign ones muffle the noise of speeding cars for people living in homes too close to motorways. These are textured and coloured like some permanent art displays belying the concrete slabs they actually are. Others are much more sinister: concrete slabs that are used to control populations that we fear or do not like. We use the euphemism “security” to justify their “necessity” without any care for the human suffering going on behind them.

Whether for protection and security or to contain and imprison, walls are a symbol of failure – a failure to revel in freedom and embrace our common humanity: that is reason enough to bring them down.

Essay arrest baffles experts

Unfortunately, the fact that you can not freely speak or write about certain topics continues to flourish even today.

Police Thursday released portions of an essay used to charge a Cary-Grove High School student with disorderly conduct, leaving several experts puzzled at an arrest based on such schoolwork.

Asked to write about whatever he wanted in a creative writing class, would-be Marine and honors student Allen Lee, 18, described a violent dream in which he shot people and then "had sex with the dead bodies.''

Then there's this:

Lee said Thursday he was "completely shocked'' to be arrested Tuesday for his essay, especially because written instructions told kids not to "censor'' what they wrote.

"In creative writing, you're told to exaggerate,'' said Lee. "It was supposed to be just junk. . . .

"There definitely is violent content, but they're taking it out of context and making it something it isn't.''

Told to write whatever they want and to not censor themselves only to be arrested for writing what the "thought" police didn't approve of. Seems like a sting operation.

McCain: Terrorists will come to U.S.

Republican presidential contender John McCain predicted Thursday as the Senate prepared to vote on a timetable for withdrawal from Iraq that terrorists "will follow us home."

As long as the U.S. government continues to piss people off and screw with other countries, then yes, there will be people who want to harm America.

Make note: A vote for McCain is a vote for more war.

Will Bioterror Fears Spawn Science Censorship?

Now here is a dangerous road.

Since September 11th, people have been increasingly worried about the misuse of legitimate scientific research to create dangerous weapons or to bypass security measures. Now a federal advisory board is about to recommend new guidelines to limit publication of life-sciences research that could be misused by terrorists.

The draft proposes voluntary compliance by scientists, universities and journals, but leaves open the possibility of federal legislation to turn the guidelines into law. Indeed, it almost invites that result by supporting application of the NSABB recommendations to researchers that do not receive federal funds -- a result that can only be achieved through regulation.

As a lawyer for computer security researchers, it is impossible to regard this prospect with anything but dread.

I agree.

Al-Qaeda Reportedly Planning Attack "on Par With Hiroshima"

Stay scared people! Really! Stayed scared!

According to a leaked intelligence report Al-Qaeda is planning to "shake the Roman throne" with an attack on "a par with Hiroshima and Nagasaki." The report indicates that the plan will have the help of supporters in Iran.

Gotta love the way Iran is brought into it. Then the article finishes with:

They have got to do something soon that is radical otherwise they start losing credibility," one counter-terrorist source said.

Please.

Giuliani warns of 'new 9/11' if Dems win

You gotta love the politics of fear. It seems to be the only thing the Republicans are capable of doing. However,

But if a Republican is elected, he said, especially if it is him, terrorist attacks can be anticipated and stopped.

Are you some kind of psychic, Rudy? How/why are your anticipation skills better than the Democrats' or even your fellow Republicans' anticipation skills?

"Vote Republican or the terrorists will get ya!"

Whatever.
