Biden calls paying higher taxes a patriotic act

Although Republican John McCain claims that Obama would raise taxes, the independent Tax Policy Center and other groups conclude that four out of five U.S. households would receive tax cuts under Obama's proposals.

That's because their plan targets those that make over $250,000 a year.

How Your Tax Dollars Are Spent

The biggest chunk of your money -- 42.2 cents of every income-tax dollar -- goes to fund the military. Over half of it, or 28.7 cents, goes to pay for the current war and military, 10 cents goes to interest payments on past and present military debt and 3.5 cents is allocated for Veterans' benefits.

Pathetic.

Higher state tax on beer?

cents per can or bottle. The current tax is 2 cents per can. That's an
increase of about 1,500 percent.

Los Angeles considers global warming tax

To fight global warming, a bill in Sacramento would enable Los Angeles
County transit officials to increase taxes on motorists. It's a bad
idea that may foreshadow even worse to come.

What bullshit.

We all knew this was coming.

Still pissed off about it.

"We're getting your money to pay for our wars!"

To end the war in Iraq; whatever happened to Senate Rule 22?

I just want to add that middle-income voters, are tapped out and do not have that two percent the Democrats want. Do the above mentioned congress members want to see a copy of our property tax bills, our utility bills, and our food bills? We should gladly supply them with these copies. To every voter who voted for this change and are shaking their head at this tax surcharge to fund the war, start making copies of your bills and send them onto your congressional member. As for wealthier Americans, their accountants will go into overdrive to avoid this tax surcharge.

Top Democrats propose war surtax

The surtax would be "a percentage of your tax bill," said House Appropriations Committee Chairman Dave Obey, D-Wisconsin. "And if you don't like the cost, then shut down the war."

We've been trying to shut down the fucking war!

So let me get this straight: Rather than ending the war machine as they were put into office to do, the "top Democrats" want to tax us in order to keep the war machine going? They think this will stop the war? Don't be such wimps! Don't keep trying to put it off on us! You were voted in to office, you freakin' morons, to do one thing: end the war. And you can't even do that. In fact, many of you support killing more Iraqis and Arabs in general. Which really just proves that this country does not have two parties (a flaw in the system anyway) as both the Republicans and Democrats are interchangeable pawns in the machine.

I'll stop ranting now.

Plan Uses Taxes to Fight Climate Change

Dealing with global warming will be painful, says one of the most powerful Democrats in Congress. To back up his claim he is proposing a recipe many people won't like _ a 50-cent gasoline tax, a carbon tax and scaling back tax breaks for some home owners.

It's all about making money.

Always.

Taxman wants to swipe money direct from bank accounts

You might think the taxman already has enough clout, but things could be about to get worse - a lot worse.

HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) wants to extend its powers so it would be able to raid bank and building society accounts for unpaid tax, without having to make its case before a judge and obtain a court order. Your home could also be at risk: HMRC could put a charge on your property if you didn't pay your tax, again without seeking sanction from a court.

HMRC believes the changes would give it the "right tools to tackle debt". Many experts think they go too far and would turn the taxman into judge, jury and executioner. Mike Warburton, senior tax partner at accountancy firm Grant Thornton, said: "It's a disgrace. If HMRC has a claim, then it should stand up in court. I would rather put my faith in the independent judiciary than the taxman. We are not yet living in a police state."

But we get closer every day.

Bush economics: 'Only the little people pay taxes'

This is a column about taxes, and how, unless you are one of the nation's top dogs, you are getting rooked.

...

Warren Buffett, the world's third-richest man, blasted the U.S. tax system earlier this summer because he pays a lower rate of taxes than his secretary. Buffett said, without trying to avoid taxes, that he paid 17.7 percent on the $46 million he made in 2006 while his secretary who made $60,000 was taxed at 30 percent.

Unseemly? Immoral? Outrageous? You bet! This imbalance is a consequence of decades of tax reforms that have benefited those at the top, with a marked acceleration under President Bush.

This should piss you off.

IRS lists and refutes 'all of the anti-tax arguments'

He produced the New Hampshire Revised Statutes Annotated, 2003 edition, which lays out the history of Amendment XVI. The amendment, it states, "was proposed by the Sixty-first Congress on July 12, 1909, and was declared ratified on February 25, 1913."

It goes on to list the states that ratified the amendment and the dates they did so. The first was Alabama, on Aug. 10, 1909.

Congress set to issue virtual taxation report in August

For months, the community of virtual world publishers, players and economists has been holding its breath, waiting for the U.S. Congress to issue its report on the potential taxation of virtual goods.

Well, we don't have to wait much longer.

The taxman cometh.

Only one in six of UK's richest men is paying any income tax

The super-rich are using loopholes to avoid paying £2billion a year in income tax, official figures have revealed.

Only one in six of those earning more than £10million a year is paying tax on their earnings - with the rest using loopholes to dodge the burden.

The revelation will fuel anger over the private equity tycoons who are making vast fortunes while the gap between rich and poor widens.

You think?

USA Liability $516,348 per U.S. household

Bottom line: Taxpayers are now on the hook for a record $59.1 trillion in liabilities, a 2.3% increase from 2006. That amount is equal to $516,348 for every U.S. household. By comparison, U.S. households owe an average of $112,043 for mortgages, car loans, credit cards and all other debt combined.

Um, that's not good.

New Study: Paying Taxes Brings Pleasure

Some economists have attributed altruism to the “warm glow” effect — the pleasurable feeling of playing Lady Bountiful and basking in public admiration.

I support Ed and Elaine Brown

In brief, after the judge denied the Browns the ability to present their defense, that they believed there was no law requiring them to pay taxes, the couple stopped attending their trial and holed up in their home, saying that they could not get a fair trial. They were convicted, of course, and sentenced in absentia in April to 63 months in prison each.

Aborted Attempt to Murder the Browns

What is so damned important that they need to end people's lives over? Is it really the money? I don't think so. The Federal Government can print all the money it desires. I believe it's about control. The feds can't have people telling them, "No." It threatens their whole power base, their control over the voluntary servitude of the masses. The feds are forced to take action when people question their authority. Because if we all realize that they only can do these things to us because of our acquiesce, their power will disappear. They can't have that, so the mainstream press must vilify the Browns, calling their home a fortified compound, calling them criminals for wanting to keep what they've earned. The government will continue trying to kill the Browns to maintain their control over us, their voluntary slaves.
