Situation in Iraq could not be worse - "A cruel and bloody civil war has started in Iraq, a country that President Bush and British Prime Minister Tony Blair promised to free from fear and establish democracy. I have been visiting Iraq since 1978, but for the first time, I am becoming convinced that the country will not survive."

Iraq War Now A Real Vietnam Mess Driven By Same Lies - "Just as other leaders once lied about Vietnam, and lost, President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney have been lying about Iraq, and you can bet we’re going to lose there, too. It’s a certainty that many Americans realize but so many refuse to see."

Are US military war crimes acceptable? - "Nevertheless, the US military saw this as normal conduct in Iraq. The three officers in charge of the operation have been reassigned. R E A S S I G N E D while 15 Iraqi civilians - read F I F T E E N C I V I L I A N S - including a baby girl - B A B Y G I R L were killed.No charges have been filed against the three officers."

Okay, So Let's Get This Straight: On Monday, Bush Admitted That he Lied About Leaking a Lie to Smear Someone Who Revealed the Truth About His Lying - "Okay, so let's get this straight. Bush admits he selectively leaked classified information that wasn't declassified until days after he and Cheney had Scooter Libby leak it to Judith Miller, the pro-war megaphone for the New York Times publication of Bush lies. Bush "authorizes" this leak at a time that he is claiming that if he ever finds the leaker, he will basically fire him, meaning himself. Then he continues a public and Department of Justice vendetta against leakers, but not himself: the leaker-in-chief. Okay, now Libby is sent out with the leak in order to debunk Joe Wilson's accounting of the truth about the non-existent Iraq-Niger uranium deal. Libby actually makes language up that doesn't exist in the document to further the lie that Wilson exposed. In short, Libby selectively used classified information to try to smear the truth with more lies. Okay, it gets better (or actually, worse). When Bush is exposed through Libby's revealing to Patrick Fitzgerald that Bush gave the green light to leak a lie to cover up a lie and prevent more lies from being exposed, Bush admits to leaking, but tells the American people that it was to get the "truth out." Are you following this? (And we haven't even gotten into the actual Valerie Plame outing to Novak yet. We are still in the sideshow.)"

Lacking Biolabs, Trailers Carried Case for War - "On May 29, 2003, 50 days after the fall of Baghdad, President Bush proclaimed a fresh victory for his administration in Iraq: Two small trailers captured by U.S. troops had turned out to be long-sought mobile "biological laboratories." He declared, "We have found the weapons of mass destruction." The claim, repeated by top administration officials for months afterward, was hailed at the time as a vindication of the decision to go to war. But even as Bush spoke, U.S. intelligence officials possessed powerful evidence that it was not true."

Rumsfeld: Iran attack talk in 'fantasy land' - "Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld said Tuesday he would not engage in "fantasy land" speculation about a possible U.S. attack on Iran, though he said the Bush administration is concerned about Tehran's nuclear ambitions. "The United States of America is on a diplomatic track," Rumsfeld said." -- Remember these words.

Iran Vows to Expand Uranium Enrichment - "Iran intends to move toward large-scale uranium enrichment involving 54,000 centrifuges, the country's deputy nuclear chief said Wednesday, signaling its resolve to expand a program the international community has insisted it halt."

Creationist to tour UK universities - "A leading member of the controversial creationist movement who claims to use science to dismiss evolution is to visit Britain on a lecture tour that will include several schools and universities."

Oprah Winfrey: Wealth Is 'A Good Thing' - "Winfrey, 52, who is reportedly worth more than $1 billion, said she doesn't feel guilty about her wealth. "I was coming back from Africa on one of my trips," she said. "I had taken one of my wealthy friends with me. She said, 'Don't you just feel guilty? Don't you just feel terrible?' I said, 'No, I don't. I do not know how me being destitute is going to help them.' Then I said when we got home, 'I'm going home to sleep on my Pratesi sheets right now and I'll feel good about it.' "" -- Well, isn't that great for you, Ope? Do you have any idea how much 1 billion dollars is? I am betting you don't. Well, for a mere 2.2% of your net worth, $31,000,000 (31 million dollars), you could give $43,000 "salaries" ($3600 per month) to 720 people for one, yes 1, year. And you're just one individual, Ope, and quite frankly not worth all that much compared to the world's wealthiest. You're only listed at number 562 on Forbes list of the World's Richest People. So, maybe you could get your "wealthy" friends out there to join in on your contribution to helping make the world not be divided between the "haves" and the "have-nots." Come on, Ope, you can do it.

FORGET ABOUT CIVIL WAR IN IRAQ, ONE IS COMING TO AMERICA - "While American troops are hunkered down in "safe zones" in Iraq trying to stay out of an escalating civil war, our government seems oblivious to a growing threat of civil war right here in the United States. As anyone can see, millions of illegal aliens living here are becoming more vocal, more demonstrative, more belligerent, and more violence-prone by the day. Unless our government takes deliberate and significant action immediately, America could be in for serious civil unrest real soon. It is absolutely incredible that our government would tolerate people who are not even legal residents of our country to generate the kind of mass demonstrations and protests that we are witnessing on a daily basis! It is more than incredible; it is outrageous!"

Archives OK'd Removing Records, Kept Quiet - "The National Archives agreed to seal previously public CIA and Pentagon records and to keep silent about U.S. intelligence's role in the reclassification, according to an agreement released under the Freedom of Information Act."

Mr. Bush, We Know What You Did That Summer! September 11th, 2001 - "We may not know every detail and we may not agree on your individual motives, but two facts are now irrefutable: the official story of what happened on September 11th is not true and you were involved. ... Understand that this is not a case of people having different opinions as to what happened that day. This is a terribly serious situation in which some people accepted your version of 9/11 because you frightened them into doing so. They believed everything you said without asking for any corroborating evidence because you asked them to take your word as the Gospel truth. But other people looked at what you told them and began to ask common sense questions about the holes you left in the official story. They could not understand why you refused to allow a bipartisan, impartial investigation into the events of that day. They realized that the Kean Commission, formed a year after the attacks, was NOT charged with finding out what really happened. They realized that this commission was there to document your official story, regardless of how it conflicted with the evidence that had been unearthed. This second group refused to sit back and ignore what was being revealed by scholars and other experts among them, and they continued investigating this most fateful day for themselves."

Senators push to let taxpayers e-file returns - "The IRS wants taxpayers to file electronically. But sending returns over the Internet requires many people to use a paid preparer or tax-preparation software, adding an extra fee to their tax bill."

Cheers, boos as Cheney opens U.S. baseball game - "The vice president, whose popularity is slumping along with that of President Bush, walked out on the field to cheering and booing from the near-sellout crowd. The boos appeared to be little louder than the cheers at RFK Memorial Stadium." -- Who are these sheeple that cheer?

Are women human? - "Why does MacKinnon matter? She is undeniably one of feminism's most significant figures, a ferociously tough-minded lawyer and academic who has sought to use the law to clamp down on sexual harassment and pornography. She's a bracing woman, who calls her philosophy "feminism unmodified" and thinks wimpish guff such as post-feminism does women no good at all. Many hate her for this."

This Really Sticks in My Craw - "You really have to read about it first hand - how Indentured servitude was re-introduced; this time to a mostly Asian populace. How child labor laws were overwritten to allow babies to work alongside their mothers. The conditions were horrific - southern plantations treated their slaves better than this - but it was just what the bugman ordered. Such a good, Christian fellow is our Tommy boy:" ... You know - I keep asking myself; just how low will this administration go? How bad does bad have to get before even one of them is stricken with a conscience? I'm afraid the answer is so far out of my ken as to be incomprehensible. I just want to hang my head in shame. This is what America means to thousands upon thousands of oppressed peoples. I have seen the enemy and he is us."

Republican Leadership Tolerating Forced Abortions Under U.S. Flag? - "Many observers have looked at Saipan and seen ugly manufacturing sweatshops and sleazy bars where girls as young as 14 are forced into prostitution. But not DeLay. To DeLay, Saipan was an inspiration, not an embarrassment. Indeed, the United States, DeLay told the Houston Chronicle in 1998, ought to create a mainland guest-worker program just like the one Saipan offered Chinese citizens, where “particular companies can bring Mexican workers in” and pay them “whatever the market will bear.” The Saipan solution, he added, was “a shining example of a free-market success.” ... You would think reports of forced abortions would make Tom DeLay and the President call for an investigation. After all, aren't the Republicans interested in stopping the killing of the unborn?Or are they just greedy liars who'll say anything to win elections?"

George Bush, The Religious Faker - "Rabbi Dennis Shulman points out the obvious: George Bush, while he talks a good religious talk, really doesn't walk a very religious walk. The man is a fake when it comes to following traditional Judeo-Christian beliefs and practices like good stewardship of the earth, helping the disadvantaged and not favoring the rich at their expense, and supporting the powerless against the powerful. Bush is no peacemaker, nor is he charitable. He pretends to piety and acts like a moneychanger. He speaks of God and Jesus, while he sits with the high priests of the corporate world in private rooms of cigar-smoke and deal-making. The man is long past due a good bolt of lightning."

MySpace.com hires official to oversee users' safety - "MySpace.com, the social networking Internet site popular with young people that has alarmed some parents and law enforcement officials concerned about sexual predators, announced yesterday that it was hiring a former federal prosecutor to be its first chief security officer."

Prophylactic Measures - "An informal survey found that almost half -- 22 of 50 -- of the District's CVS pharmacies lock up their condoms -- this in a city where one in 20 residents is HIV-positive. Most of those stores are in less affluent areas where the incidence of HIV/AIDS, other sexually transmitted diseases and unwanted pregnancy -- all preventable with condoms -- are highest. Many CVS stores in the close-in Prince George's County suburbs also lock up condoms. CVS, the leading drugstore chain in the Washington area, is not alone. Some Safeway and Giant stores in the District also lock up condoms, as do most Shopper's Food & Pharmacy Warehouse stores in the nearby suburbs. (Two chains that don't lock them up, no matter where their stores are located, are Rite-Aid and Eckerd.) Some who work in public health are alarmed."

Schools struggle with requiring PE classes - "Now, some state lawmakers are pointing to Moore as a model for the state in a plan to set tougher physical education standards for all schools. "Our students are a little less overweight, and their academic scores are high," said Moore Elementary PE teacher Kathy Clark. "I want the same for every student in Tennessee.""

Expert Says Bird Flu No Imminent Threat - "Even if bird flu does arrive on U.S. shores on the wings of a migratory bird, the virus is unlikely to make the inroads in poultry — or in people — that it has in less developed countries, the nation's top avian influenza expert says."

Science or Sizzle? - "The Maker of Race-Based Vitamins Says They Target Real Biological Differences. Some Say It's a Marketing Gimmick -- and Plain Wrong."

50 Best Jobs in America - "MONEY Magazine and Salary.com rate careers on salary and job prospects."

10th Planet Slightly Larger Than Pluto - "An icy ball discovered last year in the outer solar system is only slightly larger than Pluto, casting doubt on previous estimates that the so-called 10th planet was significantly larger, scientists reported Tuesday."

Weirdest USB Gadgets - "In case you're lucky enough to have avoided seeing these in person, here are some of the weirdest examples we've found."
